Welcome to the Alternative School

 

We pride ourselves in having a dedicated staff ready to teach and support the needs of all students who come to us. We have eight teachers, two counselors, two custodians, one cafeteria worker and a secretary. We also are supported by a behavior therapist and the district special education department. All of these staff members believe that we play a vital role in changing the direction of students’ lives.

 

Our students come to the Alternative School for many reasons. They come from the three high schools and the one middle school that serve the Plaquemines Parish School District. All have one common goal—to return to the home school successfully. We find that those who are successful are those who take advantage of the curriculum we deliver and who work cooperatively with us to change the behaviors that impeded their success in their home school.  We have high expectations for all who walk through our door!

 

As a staff, we believe that our students can and want to achieve academically and that they are responsible for their behavior and want to improve themselves in all facets of life. To this end, we make a commitment to our students to help them establish, work toward, and eventually reach their goals. 

 

As a staff, we believe that the parents and guardians of our students are key to our success. Our parents and guardians are always welcome here and our goal is to include them as often as possible in our plans and activities. We hope that the mutual respect we are looking for grows into a partnership that benefits the student we share!

 

So, welcome to the Plaquemines Parish Alternative School. We look forward to helping our students become successful students and community members each year!  It is our challenge.
